 REFLECTION #4 - WEEK 6: LICENSES AND PERMITS

I had my eyes opened this week regarding licenses and permits.  I have been a bit more familiar with permits in my areas of Arkansas as I have worked with the Washington County Health Department to obtain permits for septic systems.  I am learning that it is beneficial to ask questions first rather than ask for grace later when I do something wrong.  When we first started to remodel our existing cabin shell, we learned by error that we needed a good relationship with the Washington County Water Authority.  It is very important to make friends and keep friends within the license and permit world.  We made a friend with the representative at the water company and he guided us to work with the Washington County Planning Commission.  We were able to have our plans approved there and now we are going forward with the proper permissions and plans.  I have not yet been told that we need any sort of license, but I can definitely see that it is important that I call and ask questions and make sure that we are doing things correctly with the right license as needed.  I was really happy to find the pdf file provided by the state for starting a new business, "Dream it. Do it.".  There are a lot of blogs and such out there with information that was helpful to get me thinking but having the "straight talk" from the state is valuable.  There is so much to learn and I am so glad that much of it I don't have to learn because I have a small business and won't ever deal with corporation stuff.  It has been a good time of learning.

 WEEK 12 REFLECTION  -- March 24, 2021 This has been a good week of "out of comfort zone" time for me.  As I have mentioned before, this course has been a good stretch for me to take some risks and try something new.  I learned that I could trust myself a little more.  When I realized that I wasn't make huge errors and was actually learning from the experience, I started to relax a little.  I still feel quite a bit of anxiety with that Google Ads clock ticking -- but I think I will be OK.  I have learned that it is more valuable for me to have a set of relevant ad words rather than 25+.   Specifically, I have learned that capitalizing on the popularity of Devil's Den State park and other local attractions is valuable for me. This section of our marketing course has good to learn new ways to use Google. WEEK 10: ROI AND OPTIMIZING AD PERFORMANCE

  WEEK 10: ROI AND OPTIMIZING AD PERFORMANCE WOW!  This was a learning week.  I finally figured out how to add the code for the google analytics and learned to work Google Ads.  I ended up starting a new campaign and got that running and felt good about it.  We will see with the data shows for how it is going.  I can see how a Google Ads campaign can help a business.  For me, right now, I think I am getting plenty of business with what I am doing and I see my website functioning as more of a resource for returning guests and for information for coming guests.  I may change my mind as the months go forward if I am not keeping my cabins full.  I think that having a presence on AirBnB and VRBO is important  and those sources keep us very busy.  I am starting to have return customers that contact me directly and I have now started referring guests to the website for information.  I know that I need to continue to improve my website...

REFLECTION #4 - WEEK 5

 REFLECTION #4 - WEEK 5 February 1, 2021 I learned so much this week about designing a websites.  I chose to use Wix as my platform and I am slowly learning to manage the tools.   I am getting some ideas by looking at other successful websites that are similar to my cabin rental business.  There are many things I would like to change, improve and add.  It is a work in progress and will continue to evolve.  I have learned the great importance of the first second that a person in at your website.  That is a new way that I now look at my website.  I can see that it is important to not "compare" myself to others, but rather decide what I want my business to be and then look at others and glean the elements that will help me become the better version of "me."  I am still struggling with syncing calendars.  I don't want to pay extra to sync multiple sites, but I might have to.  Ugh! I like to do things on my own and not pay extra fee...
